Fantasy Football: NFL Week 14 Weather Conditions
There generally isn’t a noticeable and predictable weather effect on fantasy performances unless conditions like rain, snow, and wind are in the extremes. Temperature is a far more challenging variable and we have a few games this week that will be around freezing temperature. The tricky thing about temperature is that it doesn’t affect all players the same.
Temperatures have a greater impact on players that travel from milder climates. This makes intuitive sense and we have Matt Ryan and Jared Goff heading into games with temperatures they will not be acclimated to. Neither QB has played in many games below freezing temperature, but they’ve struggled in the cold weather games they have played in as detailed below.

Atlanta Falcons at Green Bay Packers

Fantasy Impact: We know 25 degrees is just a normal game for Aaron Rodgers in December. Rodgers averages 292 yards and 2.6 TDs in home games under 32 degrees according to Pro Football Reference, but that’s quite chilly for Matt Ryan. Ryan has only played in three games below 32 degrees in his career. In those games, he’s averaged 183 yards passing and 1.33 TDs. Julio Jones only played in one of those games and converted 16 targets into 9 receptions for 101 yards.
Matt Ryan struggles in the cold, on grass, and on the road. He’s far too risky to trust and Tevin Coleman has struggled all year. I would avoid the Atlanta players with the exception of Julio Jones. Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams, and Aaron Jones shouldn’t be affected by the weather, but take the field for the first time without head coach and play-caller Mike McCarthy.

Fantasy Impact: Jared Goff has very little playing experience in cold weather. Back in Week 6 Goff struggled in an unseasonably cold game in Denver. Goff went 14 of 28 for 201 yards and 0 TDs in that Denver matchup, but Cooper Kupp was in and out of that game with an injury. Kupp is out in this game, but Goff should be better prepared for this game that is slightly warmer than the game in DEN. Brandin Cooks may struggle if Goff can’t push the ball downfield. Todd Gurley rushed for over 200 yards and 2 TDs while Robert Woods eclipsed 100 yards on seven receptions. Expect a similar game plan against CHI.
Like GB, CHI should be acclimated to the weather.
